Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines tolerance, in part, as “sympathy or indulgence for beliefs or practices differing from or conflicting with one’s own” and “the act of allowing something.” In today’s digital world, one tends to hear “tolerance” thrown around. And typically, it is a liberal that is suggesting that all people should be tolerant. Everyone should show tolerance. And unfortunately, it is often Conservatives that are accused of intolerance. Day in, and day out. All conservatives, lumped into one “basket of deplorables.” It is true that on the fringe far right (although I would not necessarily even consider them on the right) you have nazi-following disillusioned groups. In no way shape or form should there be “tolerance” for them. Especially when they pursue violence.
Just as there is the far-right (media labeled) violent intolerant groups, so too do you have the same groups on the left. Antifa. Black Lives Matter. Black Panthers. “Occupiers.” They are all built on a common denominator. Violence. Imposing their skewed, radical beliefs on everyone – or attempting to.
But, let’s set aside the two far extremes, both left and right, that should never be tolerated (but sadly, both extremes are.) No, let’s looks at the people between those two fringes. Who are actually tolerant? If you listen to Rachel Maddow, Chris Hayes, Mika Brzezinski, et al at MSNBC, or if you listen to Dan Rather, Don Lemon, Anderson Cooper, et al at CNN/CBS, you will undoubtedly hear that conservatives are intolerant. If you listen to Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Ben Shapiro, and other conservative commentators, you will hear that the left is intolerant.
But who, if anyone, is correct?
When I look to solve a puzzle, typically I will look at the precedence of history. This particular question is no different.
Let’s take a look all the way back to the Civil War (that was not civil, by the way.) In 1861, the bloodiest conflict in American History began. It began, essentially, due to Abraham Lincoln being elected (ironically enough to equate to modern times, President Lincoln was elected without a single Southern electoral vote.) In 1861 the Civil War began. The primary reason being the Southern Democrats’ belief that the Federal Government should not be able to tell them if they could own slaves or not. (Historical note, President Abraham Lincoln was a “Republican”.) So, the Democrats wanted to keep slaves.
In 1863, Republican President Abraham Lincoln, issued the emancipation proclamation, deeming that “”that all persons held as slaves” within the rebellious states “are, and henceforward shall be free.“” Eventually, Robert E. Lee surrendered, and, in accordance with the Emancipation Proclamation, slaves were “free.”
“I said a boy who thinks he’s a girl, that’s the usual phraseology I use, not playing I usually say a boy who thinks he’s a girl or a girl thinks he is a boy, which is technically, what we’re talking about here, as far as the actual psychological issues at play it used to be called gender dysphoria, or gender identity disorder and now they call it gender dysphoria the idea that that sex or gender are malleable is not true. Okay, and I’m not denying your humanity if you are a transgender person. I am saying that you are not the sex to which you claim to be.– Ben Shapiro
You’re still a human being and you’re a human being with an issue that I’m you know I wish you Godspeed in dealing with – in whatever way you see fit but if you are going to dictate to me that I’m supposed to pretend, I’m supposed to pretend that men are women and women are men, no, my answer is no. I’m not going to, I’m not going to modify basic biology because it threatens your subjective sense of what you are.”
On December 2, 1865, Alabama effectively, constitutionally, ended slavery, with ratifying the 13th Amendment. However, in 1865, Jim Crow laws began being established in the Democrat held south. “Laws forbade African Americans from living in white neighborhoods. Segregation was enforced for public pools, phone booths, hospitals, asylums, jails and residential homes for the elderly and handicapped.”
Robert Byrd (D. W.VA) was a Klu Klux Klan (KKK) member. In fact, according to this, Senator Byrd was a recruiter for the KKK. Al Gore Sr. voted against the Civil Rights act. George Wallace famously attempted to prevent the integration of the University of Alabama. I do not often cite Wikipedia, however, George Wallace was a Democrat.
Democrats voted against the 13th Amendment (officially freeing slaves), the 14th Amendment (granted citizenship (official) to slaves), and the 15th Amendment (giving the right to vote to slaves.) In fact, this article shows an even more, lengthy, past of Democrats oppressing blacks. One could argue that modern day “welfare” is yet again the Democratic party’s attempt at slavery. Even this shows it as a “dependency”. A dependency for what? Democratic control, or so it seems.
Democrats voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. As the voting record shows, nearly half of the Democratic House members voted against the final bill. In the original bill passed by the House, even more Democrats voted against. Almost half of Senate Democrats voted against it. Robert Byrd helped lead the opposition, speaking for over 14 hours.
The Republican party was instrumental in Women’s rights. The Democratic party was complicit in attempting to prevent Women’s rights.
“At the request of Susan B. Anthony, Sen. A.A. Sargent, a Republican from California, introduced the 19th Amendment in 1878. Sargent’s amendment (also known as the Susan B. Anthony Amendment) was defeated four times by a Democrat-controlled Senate. When the Republican Party regained control of Congress in 1919, the Equal Suffrage Amendment finally passed the House in May of that year and in the Senate in June.
When the Amendment was submitted to the states, 26 of the 36 states that ratified it had Republican legislatures. Of the nine states that voted against ratification, eight were Democratic. Twelve states, all Republican, had given women full suffrage before the federal amendment was ratified.” (http://www.nfrw.org/women-suffrage)
Conservatives believe in limited Government. They do not believe in racism. They could care less if you are gay, or “transgender” or green or blue or whatever. Conservatives do not want your decree of what is right or wrong forced on them. That is true. Same as liberals do not want what conservatives feel is right or wrong forced on them.
However, for at least eight years, the liberal view has been forced on conservatives. Day in and day out. The voice of “we will not tolerate you if you do not believe what we do.” But, is not toleration tolerating all thoughts and beliefs (barring extreme right and extreme left violent rhetoric, as mentioned previously in this post.)
I personally, believe that Ben Shapiro was spot on when he said that being male or female is fact, and “identifying” as one or the other does not make is biological fact. I am saying that you are not the sex to which you claim to be.
You’re still a human being and you’re a human being with an issue that I’m you know I wish you Godspeed in dealing with – in whatever way you see fit but if you are going to dictate to me that I’m supposed to pretend, I’m supposed to pretend that men are women and women are men, no, my answer is no. I’m not going to, I’m not going to modify basic biology because it threatens your subjective sense of what you are.” – Ben Shapiro, (https://lybio.net/ben-shapiro-destroys-transgender-arguments/people/; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ttcOo8rK4U
But that is the point. As a conservative, what I care about are things being forced on me. Whether it be taxes, government or social issues. I believe that the Founding Fathers made it pretty clear that American’s rights were inalienable. I do not care what color you are. I do not care if you “identify” as transgender. I do not care if you are gay (I have good friends and family that are gay.) I feel that most conservatives frankly do not care. I may not agree with your beliefs or views, but I believe in your right to have them.
The democratic party, in actuality, has not only been complacent in, but indeed has promoted racism and intolerance sense the 1800’s. Liberals are intolerant for the views of conservatives, and the right of a child to live. They label those people as sexist and worse. Liberals are intolerant to those that hold religious beliefs.
Conservatives daily are demeaned by liberals as being “deplorables” simply because of the belief that one should be held accountable for one’s own decisions. That the role of government is to not be a nanny. That government should be limited.
Liberals are intolerant to success.
Historical records speak for themselves when it comes to the “tolerance” of the Democratic party. Since the 1800’s, Democrats have voted for racism, discrimination and intolerance. The Democratic party’s platform is not for tolerance, but for control. They want to control what you believe, and the actions you take. Even down to what you feed your children, as Michelle Obama stated “We can’t just leave it up to the parents.“
As historical evidence proves, the Democratic Party, for over a century, has been the intolerant, not tolerant, political party. It continues to this day. All you have to do is read or watch the news with liberals expressing their intolerance through violence, inciting violence, and “walking out” on speakers at colleges because, not of what they are saying, but because of their political affiliation.
Liberals, tolerant? Where?
