A blog about what?
Helllloooo! Welcome to Recreational Writer. I’m glad you’re here and since I only have a few seconds of your attention before you move on to another site, please do me the honor of choosing Group A or B. Thanks!
You’re in Group A if…
- You think I’m the David Weiss in the Rogaine commercial.
- You assume that I like the New York Yankees because I live in Southwestern Connecticut (Mets fan since ’86!).
- You take me for a spontaneous guy that could care less about others.
You’re in Group B if…
- You know what profession I was in before I became a Web Developer.
- We’ve talked about music before and chances are there’s at least one band we both like.
- You can name the little princess who appears in about 900 of my 1,000+ iPhone photos.
Message to Group A:
“Tech, Music, Sports, Pop Culture, Parenting and more.” Yes, that is a good indicator of what I’ll be writing about and what has come to define me over the years, but there’s more. I spend a lot of time designing and developing content for the web. I love pretty much every kind of music, except Country. And I’m glued to my iPhone and may wind up in Social Networks Anonymous one day. But, ask anyone who knows me well, and they’ll tell you my family comes first. Nothing in life will ever matter more to me than being a loving husband (that hopefully cleans every once in awhile and gives foot massages upon request) to my amazing wife and being the best dad in the world to my daughter. I’ve been blessed with a tremendously caring and supportive family, to whom I owe 99.999% of my accomplishments.
I’m a busy guy and have a lot on my mind, which is why, if you come back again, you might find that I’m writing about anything and everything. You might not be interested in all of my blog posts, but when you do read something that resonates with you, leave a comment! And feel free to check out my about.me page to learn a little more about DFW.
Message to Group B:
I know what you’re thinking. You spend 8+ hours in front of a computer screen at GigMasters, you do a little freelance programming on the side, you’re always on Facebook and Twitter, you already started a blog when your daughter was born and never write on it, you hardly ever do the dishes or clean and you think it’s a good idea to start blogging?! Okay, maybe that last one is just what my wife is saying, but I hear you guys. Sounds crazy, I know, but at the same time, it just feels right. The creative side of me never quits. It’s always on, 24/7. I might not be able to play the drums, or get in front of a computer to work on a website, or draw in my sketchbook, but I figure I can always write, wherever I am, whatever I’m doing.
If you’re in Group B, you know that I’m good for a random comment here and there. It’s not intentional, trust me. It’s just a tribute to the fact that my mind seems to always have 1,000,001 things battling for my attention. Expect to see some of those things brought to life here on my blog. You know I’m a pretty unique guy, have a lot of interests and know way too much about Reality TV and Pop Music than I should. I think you’ll enjoy reading what I have to say!
OK now I’m curious…what profession were you in before becoming a web developer?

Spanish teacher! 2 years at college level, 3 at high school level. Right now, I just have 1 student…my little girl. She can point to most of her body parts when I say them in Spanish and she gives me a hug and kiss when I say “abrazo” and “beso.” I can’t wait until she starts speaking more (hopefully in Spanish)!

That’s my boy. The fruit doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Wish I had the time to devote to your pursuit. My files are still full of unpublished materials, but my fancy is for painting right now. Keep up the good work and stay grounded.
